MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
154th EDITION: May 1, 2020
From the Desk of Mr. Mike Shukis
Parents and Guardians,
Late Thursday night I received an email from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocese of Rockford. In the emails it detailed how all schools, both public and nonpublic, at this time would not be permitted to have graduations or any year- end activities due to social distancing and state imposed stay-at-home orders. This would include our attempt in the end of May to video tape each individual graduate receiving their diploma while walking across the stage and having a professional company splice together all the graduates to make one ceremony. What follows is the exact language from the Illinois State Board of Education.
In-person graduation ceremonies of any kind are not allowed at this time. This directive extends to drive-through graduation ceremonies or events where students come in small groups to the school or another location for a photo or to walk across a stage. The governor’s extended stay-at-home order prohibits group gatherings. I join you in hoping that events can resume in person sooner rather than later, but that time is not now.
Please keep in mind that this directive is for the present time. Marian will continue
to do whatever we can and keep planning and working hard to develop some type of
graduation, hopefully a live graduation, for early July.

Hurricane Light Shines!
On Friday, April 24, 2020, students, staff, alumni and friends came together for a “drive-by” event to honor our seniors and show support for our Marian Central family. Faculty, staff and even a coach or two lined the parking lot and waved to Hurricanes who passed by to say “Hello”, “We Miss You” and “See you again soon”. Click below to see the Hurricane spirit:

Meningococcal Vaccinations Required
Class of 2021- Current Juniors
We are required by the State Board of Education, as a part of our school recognition process, to have all students in compliance with Illinois Department of Health regulations. Seniors need to have proof of a second meningococcal shot provided to the school office no later than October 15, 2020. If you have not yet arranged for your student to complete their final meningitis booster, please make your appointments early! Per the State of Illinois, we will require proof of these updates prior to that October 15th date to prevent any interruption of your student's education.

Class Rings
PARENTS OF THE CLASS OF 2022: One of the traditions at Marian Central Catholic High School is our School Jewelry Program. Each spring, our local Jostens representative, Todd Crandall, meets with the sophomore class to present the program and to help the students place their orders for their class jewelry.
Here is the link that explains the process and highlights a discount that Jostens is promoting over the next few weeks that won’t be available this Fall. Jostens wants to take some pressure off the production for this Fall, so they are running a $50 off promotion now: JWL – COVID 19 Discount ($50 OFF JWL): https://youtu.be/oc9foRCKAEQ
Here is the link to design and place an order.
Todd Crandall from Jostens can mail out a finger sizer if families email or phone him: Todd Crandall todd.crandall@jostens.com 815-477-3588
